After Monday's tough loss to Washington, Coach Coughlin is once again trying to pick up the pieces. The Giants would lose any tie-breakers with Washington and Dallas so they need to win their last 4 games. The soul searching the team did on the bye week still hasn't explained their inconsistent play, so a simple "win" strategy is the best approach. Today they face a difficult New Orleans offense. Here are your key match-ups:
Giants RB's vs Saints Front 7: Lately the Giants aren't scoring enough TD's so it would be foolish to promote the running game against the Saints, who lead NFL in the red zone. Should the Giants give David Wilson more responsibilities, his target should be the edges where the Saints defense is weak.
Giants Canty/Joseph vs Saints La Puenta/Grubbs/Evans: The Saints rely on Drew Brees to get points on the board. He can move from the pocket but the best way to distract is push the front of pocket and clog his passing lanes. The Saints OL is very good at Brees vision clean. He had 5 INT's and 1 sack against the Falcons.
Saints Coverage Units vs Giants Wilson/Randall: The biggest reason for loss in Washington for the Giants (besides penalties) was starting field position of 15yard line. They cannot allow the Saints to tilt on special teams because that widens Steve Spagnulo's playbook and gives Drew Brees more real estate. If they do that, it reduces Giants options on offense.
Prediction: Giants win 23-21 today.
